Gillespie Greetings Summer 2018

Thanks so much for your prayers for us. The past few months have been different for us as we are now caring for Lois’ parents in their home in WV. Lois isn’t traveling with me, and I miss having her at churches where I minister. She struggles keeping up with the paperwork end of things (and that’s why this update looks different and is late). We know we are ministering in a different way and don\’t regret it, but we miss our ‘normal’.

I get interesting feedback when I talk about “How the Bible changed the World.” I try to answer the question of why Western cultures have more freedoms and prosperity than others.

The short answer is: “The closer a person or nation follows a biblical worldview, the more likely they are to have peace and prosperity.” The problem is that other cultures are trying to function on a faulty made-up view of reality. This talk contrasts Biblical thinking with Hinduism, Islam, Animism, Medieval Catholicism, and secular Humanism, and shows that each one is a recipe for a dysfunctional culture.

I find that the people who respond the best to this talk are those who are from another culture or those who have lived outside of our culture. Just last week a young lady from Argentina said that she understood exactly what I was saying. They didn’t have a Protestant Reformation to show them a contrasting Biblical way of thinking. This young lady from Argentina said that her culture never developed a protestant work ethic where doing a good job is praiseworthy. In her culture, she said it is the goal to try to do as little as possible and still get paid for it. This is one example of how one way of thinking can mean the difference between a productive culture and an impoverished one.

Another concept I get a lot of feedback on is the idea of observational and historical science. Observational science is what we can see and experiment with, historical science is speculation about what happened in the past.

The trouble is people often mix them together, and say “see science says we can’t believe the Bible”.  I was having a talk with my doctor the other day about what I do and he was typically confused about science, being convinced that science and the Bible are incompatible. A quick explanation of the two types of science seemed to clear things up.

My wife was playing one of my talks for her father who was in a rehab center recovering from surgery. The man in the next bed was listening intently. He said that idea of two types of science really cleared things up for him. This idea is so liberating for those who think we have to go with what modern scientists think happened, so we can’t believe what God said actually happened. The point is, the Word of God is Truth; we don’t have to be timid or ashamed about it at all.

Your financial and prayer support helps us to continue carrying this message to churches, camps, and schools almost every week of the year. You can view our schedule at creationshope.org.

Who Is This Baby?

\"\"

Who is that baby in the manger?
A baby too weak to even walk or talk;
He is the eternal Almighty God Who spoke the universe into existence,
The One Who walked and talked with Adam and Eve in perfect fellowship in a perfect earth with no death.
He is the One Who spoke the curse on Adam’s race because of their sin, bringing all of mankind under the penalty of physical death and eternal separation from God.
But wait – there’s more!
He is this same God Who took on human flesh and was born in that manger,
Whose physical body was related back to Adam.
He is the One Who walked and talked with people and raised dead bodies to life with His spoken Word.
He is the One Who died physically, but rose again from the dead to take the punishment of Adam’s race.
He is the One Who removed that sting of eternal death and separation from God.
He is the One Who spoke to holy men of old and gave us the very words of God Himself so we would know Who He is.
He is the One Who will judge this earth again with His spoken Word because of sin.
He is the One Who will come back to earth to restore things back to a place of perfection with no death,
So again we will walk and talk in perfect fellowship with the Creator,
The baby in the manger Who will reign forever!

The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much…James 5:16bIn our last Gillespie Greetings, we requested prayer for ‘bookings’. What that simple word didn’t tell you was that our upcoming calendar at that time was empty even though I was faithfully calling every day – and we were concerned! So we asked you to pray. In the next few days, I booked 3 conferences, and now our calendar is full up to June 2017. Look for us in Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Ohio, and Illinois. Thanks so much for your faithful prayers!

2016 – Not What We Expected!

\"\"This year has been quite eventful, both in our 6th year with Answers in Genesis and in our personal lives. We can\’t adequately tell you how much it has meant to us to know you are praying for us. How blessed we are to know that at no time have our lives have been out of God\’s control.

For the past couple of years, we have been doing conferences in Florida during the winter where we were able to stay with my mom and spend some time with her. This year as we were traveling down, my mom, aged 91, went into the hospital. Within a week, she had passed away, and is now healed and rejoicing with our Lord.

In March, Lois had cancer surgery which was followed by an infection that she fought for about a month. The good news is that the cancer was caught early and is gone – no chemo or radiation required.

Conferencing with Answers in Genesis continued, but for a  while I had to travel without my Lois, my greatest help. She is traveling with me again, but has another surgery in July. Pray that she will heal quickly without infection.

We\’re currently at Sacandaga Bible Conference in New York speaking at one of their family camps, and will go from here to Camp Patmos on Kelly\’s Island in Ohio to speak to the kids at their family camp.

Although busy, we feel blessed to be doing what we\’re doing – sharing the gospel and challenging people to a greater faith in God\’s Word. Recently, at a youth outreach in a small church in southern Ohio, I shared the gospel, starting with the history in Genesis. Three young men were saved that night. That\’s why we do what we do. Thanks so much for your prayers and gifts that allow us to continue this ministry.
